Professional Experience
Management Accountant
Trentway Building Products Ltd · Nottingham, United KingdomSeptember 2022 – Present
- •Own the close for three UK entities and report to the board on working day five, having moved it from working day eight by taking accruals, prepayments and intercompany into a pre-close checklist.
- •Prepare the statutory accounts under FRS 102 and hold the external audit relationship, including agreeing a fieldwork timetable that no longer collides with the Q3 close.
- •Built the FRS 102 transition analysis for periods beginning January 2026: identified 14 property and vehicle leases moving onto the balance sheet, restated the comparatives and modelled the effect on covenant headroom before the annual banking review.
- •Cleared a £180k unreconciled intercompany balance carried forward for three quarters, and introduced a monthly matching process that has kept it at nil since.
- •Rebuilt the monthly variance pack in Power Query, replacing four hours of manual copying with a refresh and moving commentary from working day six to working day four.
- •Owned the finance workstream of the NetSuite implementation: chart of accounts design, opening balance migration for all three entities, and two cycles of parallel running before the legacy ledger was switched off.
- •Supervise one assistant accountant, review their reconciliations and VAT workings, and sign off the balance sheet file before it goes to the financial controller.

- •Prepared the quarterly VAT return including the partial exemption calculation for the group's exempt rental income, and rebuilt the workings so that the method is documented and reviewable.
- •Reduced aged debt over 90 days from £310k to £95k across four months by introducing a weekly credit control review with the sales team.
